The Head of State, João Lourenço, returned to the country on Tuesday night from Geneva, Switzerland, where he took part in the 78th session of the World Health Assembly, organized by the World Health Organization (WHO). During his stay in Geneva, President João Lourenço participated in high-level discussions on major global health challenges, with a particular focus on strengthening health systems in developing countries, preparing for future pandemics, and the need for a coordinated response to emerging health threats.
The Angolan statesman’s presence at the WHO’s annual meeting reinforces Angola’s commitment to global public health issues and highlights the importance of international cooperation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly with regard to universal access to healthcare.
João Lourenço was accompanied by a delegation composed of members of the Executive involved in the health sector, as well as presidential advisors. He also held bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the event with representatives of international organizations and other member states.
